Traffic Supply, Inc. stocks 2 7/8" O.D. aluminum round posts in 12ft lengths.  While not the best choice for cost sensitive projects, they are quite sturdy and weather well. Many local municipalities require the use of aluminum round posts for supporting street name signs.
